The travel boost was announced as fuel and motoring costs continue to rise. The RAC reported in November 2010 that the annual day-to-day costs of running a new car had shot up by 8.9% to £46.48 a week. The RAC’s Cost of Motoring Index 2010* also found that the cost of fuel alone for the average motorist had shot up 9.8% to £1,300 per year.

In contrast, seven days’ unlimited travel on Supertram and Stagecoach buses in Sheffield is being held at £12, meaning passengers using the popular megarider ticket will have seen no increase in the cost of their travel since September 2008. In addition, Supertram is holding the price of all tickets sold online, including 28-day and annual megarider tickets. Both provide excellent value for money, with 28-day tickets offering travel, on both bus and tram, from just £1.64 a day.

 

The majority of tickets available on the Supertram network will remain unchanged. A small number of day and single fares will see a price increase from 11 April 2011, while the City Centre single ticket used by less than 2% of passengers is being phased out.

 

The following fares are changing:

 

Single tickets:

£1.20 is withdrawn, these journeys will now cost £1.50 in line with other short journeys.

£1.40 increased by 10p to £1.50

£2.00 increased by 10p to £2.10

 

Day tickets:

Sheffield Tram & Bus Dayrider increased by 20p from £3.50 to £3.70

Stagecoach Day Explorer increased by 20p from £5.00 to £5.20 (this applies from 1st April)

Event return £2.50  - withdrawn.

Also note that South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive has advised the child fare in South Yorkshire they support will increase from 1st April 2011 by 10p per journey - the new fare will be 50p single or £1 day return.
